Rupiah Exchange Rate Today, 12 March 2026: Weakens to Rp16,906
The Indonesian rupiah’s exchange rate against the US dollar showed a weakening trend during Thursday trading on 12 March 2026. Based on spot market data, the rupiah experienced a significant correction in the morning session, piercing the Rp16,900 level.
The rupiah stood at Rp16,906.0 per US dollar, weakening by 57.9 points or 0.34% compared to the previous trading closure.
Pressure on the rupiah’s exchange rate today was dominated by external sentiment, particularly the release of US economic data that strengthened the position of the dollar index against other major currencies. Additionally, increased demand for foreign currency domestically ahead of the 2026 Lebaran holiday period triggered higher-than-usual dollar demand.
Investors currently tend to shift towards safe-haven assets amid uncertainty in the domestic stock market. Bank Indonesia is estimated to continue monitoring the market to ensure rupiah volatility remains within a manageable range to avoid the impact of import inflation.
The rupiah exchange rate at the opening of Tuesday trading in Jakarta moved to strengthen by 63 points or 0.37% to Rp16,886 per US dollar.
