Rupiah exchange rate influenced by Q2-2026 balance of payments data release
The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar opened flat on Friday, unchanged at Rp17,748 per US dollar compared with the previous close. Permata Bank Chief Economist Josua Pardede said the rupiah would be influenced by the release of Indonesia’s balance of payments data for the second quarter of 2026. Bank Indonesia is scheduled to release the Q2-2026 balance of payments data today. He expects the current account deficit to widen to 3.09 percent of gross domestic product, from 1.09 percent of GDP in the first quarter of 2026. In addition, other sentiment stems from the announcement of a buyback programme for long-term US government bonds. The operation aims to lower long-term bond yields, which had previously continued to rise to their highest level in 20 months for the 10-year US Treasury. With US bond yields declining, the US dollar becomes less attractive. Based on these factors, the rupiah is predicted to range between Rp17,700 and Rp17,825 per US dollar.
