Jakarta, VIVA – Bank Indonesia (BI), through the Head of the BI Communication Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, has spoken out regarding the development of the Rupiah exchange rate, which continues to weaken against the US dollar.

In spot market trading on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, as of 1:52 PM WIB, the Rupiah was traded at Rp 17,958 per US dollar. This position represents a decline of 119 points, or 0.67 per cent, from its previous level of Rp 17,839 per US dollar.

He ensured that BI will continue to closely monitor developments in both global and domestic financial markets, and will remain present in the market by taking necessary steps consistently and in a measured manner.

“In order to maintain the stability of the Rupiah exchange rate and strengthen external resilience,” Ramdan stated in his announcement on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.

He added that BI will also continue to remain active in the market by optimising all available policy instruments to ensure that market mechanisms function properly and to maintain sufficient foreign exchange liquidity to support financial market stability.

“Starting 2 June 2026, Bank Indonesia has implemented a threshold for cash purchases of foreign exchange against the Rupiah without underlying documentation, set at US$25,000 per participant per month,” he noted.

Furthermore, BI is confirmed to continue encouraging the use of local currencies in bilateral cooperation through the Local Currency Transaction (LCT) scheme. This is an effort to reduce dependence on the US dollar and mitigate exchange rate volatility risks.

“This cooperation has been established with China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates,” said Ramdan.

BI views that the stability of the Rupiah exchange rate requires synergy from all stakeholders. To this end, Bank Indonesia continues to strengthen coordination with the Government, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the banking sector, the business community, and market participants to ensure that market mechanisms work effectively and to strengthen the external resilience of the national economy.
