Rupiah Comes Under Pressure Again, Hits Rp 17,024 per US Dollar
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market came under pressure again at the start of trading on Thursday (2/4/2026). The Garuda currency weakened by 41 points or 0.24 percent to the level of Rp 17,024 per US dollar. According to Bloomberg data, the rupiah briefly strengthened to Rp 16,981 per US dollar at the opening of Thursday’s trading. However, this did not last long, before it came under pressure as the Uncle Sam’s currency strengthened. The South Korean won recorded the deepest weakening after falling 0.49 percent. Next, the Philippine peso weakened 0.47 percent and the Thai baht fell 0.36 percent. The Japanese yen also corrected by 0.29 percent. Weakening was also experienced by the Singapore dollar, which fell 0.24 percent, the Chinese yuan weakened 0.13 percent, and the Taiwan dollar corrected slightly by 0.05 percent. On the other hand, the Malaysian ringgit became the currency with the largest strengthening in Asia after rising 0.12 percent. The Hong Kong dollar also recorded a slight strengthening of 0.01 percent against the US dollar. In line with this, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) also opened weaker at the start of Thursday’s trading. At 09:57 WIB, the index fell 85.471 points or 1.19 percent to the level of 7,098.967. Since the opening, the index has moved in the red zone and briefly touched the daily low of 7,081.337. The IHSG opened at 7,153.114 and briefly reached the daily high of 7,161.797. Trading activity was quite brisk, with transaction volume reaching 8.462 billion shares and transaction value of Rp 4.060 trillion. Trading frequency was 582,054 transactions. From the stock movement side, the number of stocks that weakened was far greater than those that strengthened. As many as 402 stocks fell, only 210 stocks strengthened, and 192 other stocks were stagnant.
