Rupiah Closes Stronger at Rp 16,904 per US Dollar, IHSG Corrects 1.89 Percent
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market successfully maintained its strengthening until the end of trading on Thursday (26/3/2026). The rupiah closed at the level of Rp 16,904 per US dollar.
According to Bloomberg data, the Garuda currency strengthened by 7 points. The rupiah appreciated 0.04 percent compared to the previous day’s close at Rp 16,911 per US dollar.
The rupiah’s movement contrasted with the majority of currencies in the Asian region, which weakened instead.
Subsequently, the Thai baht fell 0.3 percent, followed by the South Korean won weakening 0.28 percent, and the Philippine peso correcting 0.25 percent.
Weakening also occurred in the Singapore dollar, which dropped 0.14 percent, and the Hong Kong dollar, which slipped 0.03 percent.
Meanwhile, the Chinese yuan and Japanese yen both weakened slightly by 0.02 percent each.
On the other hand, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) closed lower in today’s trading.
The index closed down 1.89 percent or corrected 138.029 points to the level of 7,164.091, after moving in a downward trend throughout the day since the opening session.
Since opening at 7,313.665, the index briefly strengthened slightly and recorded the daily high at 7,323.702.
From a liquidity perspective, trading activity was recorded as quite high, with a volume of 30.83 billion shares and a transaction value of Rp 31.88 trillion, as well as transaction frequency exceeding 1.71 million times.
Pressure was also reflected in the negative market breadth, where the number of declining stocks reached 380, far more than the 292 rising stocks, while 148 stocks were stagnant.
With this condition, the market capitalisation of the Indonesia Stock Exchange reached Rp 12,620.998 trillion.
