Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The rupiah exchange rate ended stronger against the United States dollar on Tuesday (14/7/2026), following the decision by global rating agency S&P Global Ratings to maintain Indonesia’s credit rating and outlook.

Referring to Refinitiv data, the Garuda currency closed in the green, strengthening 0.11% to Rp18,080 per US.Therupiahmoveddynamicallythroughouttheday, openingstagnantatthepsychologicallevelofRp18, 100perUS before turning positive until the close of trading.

Meanwhile, the US dollar index (DXY), which measures the greenback’s strength against six major world currencies, was observed to have weakened slightly by 0.04% to 101.197 as of 15:00 Western Indonesia Time.

The rupiah’s strengthening was still influenced by positive news from S&P Global Ratings, which maintained Indonesia’s sovereign debt rating at BBB with a stable outlook. The decision confirms Indonesia remains in the investment-grade category amid high global economic uncertainty.

In a report released on 13 July 2026, S&P assessed that the current weakening of several of Indonesia’s fiscal and external indicators is temporary. These conditions are expected to improve in line with the government’s stable policy direction and more effective policy implementation. S&P Global Ratings also projected the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar to be at Rp17,700 per US$ in 2026.

Responding to the decision, Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that the rating affirmation from S&P reflects the continued strong confidence of investors and international stakeholders in the Indonesian economy. “The affirmation of Indonesia’s sovereign credit rating by S&P at BBB with a stable outlook reflects the sustained confidence of international stakeholders in Indonesia’s macroeconomic stability and solid economic growth prospects,” Perry said in an official statement on Tuesday (14/7/2026).

According to Perry, the positive assessment is inseparable from the close policy synergy between the government and Bank Indonesia in maintaining economic stability while encouraging growth amid increasing global risks. He emphasised that Bank Indonesia will continue to strengthen the policy mix of monetary, macroprudential, and payment systems to maintain stability while supporting sustainable economic growth.
