Rupiah Closes Flat as MSCI Rebalancing Euphoria Fades
The rupiah closed flat at Rp17,877 per US dollar on Thursday, unchanged from the previous day’s close. Analysts attributed the stagnant movement to fading euphoria following the release of the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) Equity Indexes August 2026 Index Review. Market focus is now turning to the selection process for the new Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia. MSCI Inc. announced its latest review on 12 August 2026, which saw two Indonesian stocks removed from the MSCI Global Standard Index without any additions. On the domestic front, the government has submitted a presidential letter regarding candidates for Bank Indonesia officials. Aida S. Budiman has been proposed as the candidate for Senior Deputy Governor, while Solikin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori are candidates for the position of Deputy Governor. In contrast to the spot market, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) weakened slightly to Rp17,882 per US dollar from the previous Rp17,876. External factors, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, also remain a concern for market participants.
