Jakarta (ANTARA) – Bank Indonesia (BI) intensified a range of stabilisation instruments to dampen pressure on the rupiah, which breached the Rp16,900 per US dollar level due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, in remarks in Jakarta on Wednesday, said the central bank will remain in the market to maintain exchange-rate stability and to prevent spillovers from the widening Middle East conflict.

‘Interventions will be firm and consistent through Non-Deliverable Forward (NDF) transactions in the offshore market, spot transactions and Domestic Non-Deliverable Forward (DNDF) in the domestic market, accompanied by purchases of Surat Berharga Negara (SBN) in the secondary market,’ Damayanti said.

She noted the rupiah’s weakness remains in line with regional currencies. On a month-to-date basis, the rupiah has weakened by 0.51 percent, relatively better than currencies in the region.

Foreign exchange reserves remain robust, standing at $154.6 billion at the end of January 2026. On the other hand, foreign capital inflows into the domestic financial markets in 2026 amounted to Rp25.7 trillion.

At the opening of trading in Jakarta on Wednesday, the rupiah was down 58 points, or 0.34 percent, to Rp16,930 per US dollar from the previous close of Rp16,872 per US dollar on Tuesday (3/3).
