Running Race Ends in Assault: Child in Depok Becomes Victim of Emotional Police Officer's Son
A nine-year-old boy identified as F became the victim of mistaken violence inflicted by an 11-year-old son of a police officer identified as R in Gang Masjid, Curug, Cimanggis, Depok City, on the evening of Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
Widya, F’s mother, recounted that initially two boys, R and T, were playing a running race near the incident location. In this competition, R lost.
However, R reportedly could not accept the defeat and asked a companion to help him find T again. After searching around the RT 07 RW 3 Curug area, R, accompanied by a 20-year-old youth and other children, encountered F who had just come out of his house.
Suddenly, F became the target of their emotional outburst. Based on CCTV footage, a victim’s cries could be heard. He was struck in the chest area. Then, a 20-year-old youth dragged the still-crying victim while R hit the victim’s back with a flip-flop sandal.
“He hit him with his hand towards the stomach, then dragged him continuously. According to the CCTV footage, but I don’t know what else happened,” said Widya.
Widya only became aware of the assault against her son after another child came to her house and reported the incident. Subsequently, Widya went to the scene and found her son still surrounded by a group of children who had witnessed the assault.
Widya emphasised that her son was not involved in the running race and was a victim of mistaken identity. The case ended in mediation at Cimanggis Police Precinct and was resolved peacefully by signing a written statement.
“What I know from witnesses is that my son was beaten by the son of a police officer—he was the one who hit him,” said Widya.
“They did apologise, but it was just a superficial apology. As a mother, I need a sincere apology from their side,” she added.
