KULON PROGO - The Kulon Progo Regency government held a running event to promote the culinary area in Pronosutan village, Kembang sub-district, Nanggulan district, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta.

The event, titled ‘Kuliner Run 2026’, was attended by approximately 800 runners from various communities in Kulon Progo and its surroundings.

The Head of the Kulon Progo Tourism Office, Sutarman, said that this activity was carried out collaboratively with the support of the government, community, and sponsors.

Pronosutan has rapidly developed into a culinary area based on scenic tourism. Visitors can enjoy views of the hills, while from above, they can see valleys and vast rice fields stretching as far as the eye can see, with the Menoreh Hills in the background.

The roads that were once agricultural paths have now been paved between rice fields, with meandering irrigation canals and asphalt inspection routes, making this area attractive for sports and recreation.

‘This rural area is very suitable for sports tourism. The air is fresh, the scenery is pleasant, and the route is safe because it does not cross major roads,’ added Sutarman.

In addition to being a sporting event, this activity was also used to empower local MSME actors.

The running competition started at 06:00 WIB, taking advantage of the fresh morning air and good natural lighting for photography.

However, the Pronosutan area is also attractive for afternoon activities because it offers sunset views with rice fields and hills in the background.

One of the participants, Noor Septi Ningsih from Sleman, said she enjoyed the rural atmosphere during the event. The woman who works in Sleman participated in running in the Pronosutan area for the first time.

She admitted that the combination of rice fields, hills and roads enhanced the atmosphere of the running route. Tourists who jog and do other sports are expected to enjoy staying longer.

‘The view is beautiful, the green rice fields are the most memorable,’ said Septi.

The Kulon Progo Regency government hopes that similar events can be held regularly to strengthen the promotion of rural tourism while also introducing local cuisine at the national level.
