Run for Free Palestine Marks 1,002 Days of Genocide in Gaza

The National Committee for Palestine (Komnas Palestina) held a ‘Run for Free Palestine’ event at the Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Central Jakarta on Sunday (5/7/2026) as a show of solidarity from the Indonesian people towards the Palestinian people. Through the five-kilometre run, which was attended by hundreds of participants, the humanitarian organisation sought to send a message to the world that the Indonesian nation’s support for the Palestinian struggle has never waned, even as the conflict in Gaza entered its 1,002nd day since 7 October 2023.

The Chairman of Komnas Palestina, Ustaz Muhammad Syarief Lc, stated that the Run For Free Palestine event was part of an effort to continue voicing the call for Palestinian liberation amidst a conflict that has yet to show signs of ending.

‘Through this Run for Free Palestine event, we want to send a message to the world that Palestine is not alone. The Indonesian nation stands with them. Although the forms of support vary, one of them is realised through this activity,’ Ustaz Syarief told Republika at the Sunda Kelapa Grand Mosque on Sunday (5/7/2026).

He noted that as of today, the conflict in Gaza has reached its 1,002nd day since 7 October 2023. Citing data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza updated the previous night, the death toll has reached 73,090 martyrs, with 173,553 people injured.

‘This means the problem is not yet resolved. Therefore, we want to continue voicing the call for Palestinian liberation,’ he said.
