Rumour of Samsung's Second-Generation Tri-Fold Phone, Reportedly Launching in 2027
The foldable phone market appears set to enter a new, more competitive chapter. Having successfully popularised the Fold and Flip form factors, Samsung is now widely rumoured to be developing a tri-fold device.
Interestingly, recent reports suggest the South Korean technology giant is not only preparing one model, but has already projected development through to a second generation predicted to launch in 2027.
The move is seen as both a defensive and offensive strategy for Samsung to reclaim the throne of foldable screen innovation, which has begun to be challenged by Chinese manufacturers.
To date, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold has offered a tablet-like experience in a phone-sized body. However, the main limitations of the dual-fold design are its rather “squarish” screen ratio and the thickness of the device when folded. With tri-fold technology, Samsung aims to deliver a far wider display reaching 10 inches or more whilst retaining compact dimensions for portability.
Based on information circulating among gadget observers, the first generation of Samsung’s tri-fold phone will most likely be introduced earlier as a pioneer. However, the second generation rumoured for release in 2027 is predicted to be a far more mature version — thinner and with more durable hinges.
