Rumors upset Roy Marten
JAKARTA (JP): Rumors can really make one upset. That's what happened to popular television miniseries actor Roy Marten, who was rumored as having been arrested as a drug dealer.
"I refuse to be accused as a drug dealer without evidence, but I know who is the real drug dealer among actors and actresses," the 47-year-old actor told Antara after a discussion on AIDS/HIV prevention in Tangerang, on Jakarta's outskirts.
Star of the popular TV series Dewi Fortuna said he knew those actors and actresses who distributed or used drugs but did not feel it necessary to expose them since he considered it was unethical.
He did not deny that some actresses and actors were drug users, but regretted that some people only looked at their negative sides and ignored their positive ones, such as taking part in regular religious activities.
In his case, he was planning to do something positive: taking part in a business opportunity by running a restaurant in Hong Kong. Instead, he was accused of being arrested as a drug dealer while he was in the former British colony.
He said that he was not arrested at all. "I went to open a restaurant but ended up accused as a drug dealer. The rumor must have been be spread by those who don't like me," he said.
