Rummenigge visits Surabaya
JAKARTA (JP): Former German team captain Karl Heinz Rummenigge
suggested that Indonesia invite foreign trainers here to better
its soccer, instead of sending players off on overseas stints.
"It's good to train junior player overseas. But it will be
more fruitful if the country invites in well-qualified trainers,"
he said on Friday in Surabaya, East Java.
Rummenigge was commenting on Indonesia's million-dollar
project to produce future soccer stars by sending teenagers to
Italy. The program started in 1993.
The former World Cup star, who is now the vice chairman of
Bayern Munich, is visiting Surabaya for a friendly match pitting
Mitra Surabaya against Pelita Jaya. He is also scheduled to hold
a coaching clinic. (icn)
