Rumah Zakat Visits Elderly Breadwinners in Tumpatan Village

Rumah Zakat, through its Inspiration Volunteers, has strengthened its support for beneficiaries by conducting visits to participants of the Ramah Lansia (Elderly Friendly) programme who also receive economic assistance in Tumpatan Village, Beringin District, Deli Serdang Regency. This outreach is not merely a visit, but a form of care to ensure programme participants remain motivated in their businesses, maintain their health, and continue to be encouraged towards self-sufficiency in their old age. On Sunday, 5 July 2026, volunteers visited the home of Ibu Boinem, an elderly woman who has long struggled to support herself and her orphaned grandchild. To meet daily needs, Ibu Boinem runs a small business selling ice and various children’s snacks in her neighbourhood. Despite her advanced age, her spirit to earn a living has never waned. For Ibu Boinem, working is not just about making a living, but also a form of responsibility and affection for her grandchild to ensure a better life. The volunteers provided motivation for her to maintain her health, remain optimistic, and believe that every honest effort will bring blessings from Allah SWT. Another visit took place on Saturday, 11 July 2026, to meet Pak Mansyur, a programme participant who spends his mornings delivering traditional herbal medicine, or jamu, to loyal customers. Starting at 6:30 AM, Pak Mansyur and his wife prepare the jamu at home before taking turns selling and delivering it. He shared that before starting the jamu business, he worked as a public transport driver, but as he grew older, he chose to switch professions to better suit his physical condition. Now, with his beloved wife, he runs the traditional medicine business with diligence and gratitude. Through these visits, Rumah Zakat aims to ensure that empowerment does not stop at providing aid, but continues with mentorship, motivation, and mental strengthening so that participants become more confident in running their businesses. The stories of Ibu Boinem and Pak Mansyur prove that age is no barrier to productivity. With spirit, hard work, and prayer, they continue to strive for their families and serve as real examples that independence can be achieved through lawful and sincere effort.
