Rumah Wakaf Develops Productive Garden Waqf Village

Waqf management in Indonesia continues to transform, moving beyond merely serving as physical places of worship to becoming a pillar that drives the economy and environmental sustainability.

Rumah Wakaf is demonstrating this through the development of the Kampung Wakaf Kebun Produktif programme located in Mekarmanik Village (Oray Tapa), Cimenyan District, Bandung Regency.

This initiative received direct appreciation from the Professor of Islamic Economics at Airlangga University (UNAIR) and Expert Council member of Rumah Wakaf, Prof Raditya Sukmana, during a field visit to the site.

The visit underscored the importance of the Waqf Impacts approach in measuring the success of waqf-based empowerment programmes.

Through a productive land area of approximately 10,000 square metres, Rumah Wakaf integrates an integrated farming system concept and a conservative agroforestry approach to deliver three main impacts for the local area:

Local Economic Empowerment: Engaging farmers and surrounding communities to manage integrated agricultural land, creating new job opportunities, and improving the income levels of beneficiary families (mauquf ’alaih).

Ecosystem Sustainability: Applying alley cropping techniques and soil conservation on sloping land to prevent erosion, while implementing environmentally friendly agricultural operational patterns with zero-waste value.

Sustainable Social Benefits: The proceeds from the productive garden business are projected to support the economic independence of beneficiaries as well as sustain various humanitarian programmes on an ongoing basis.

Rendi Septiyan Nugraha, CEO of Rumah Wakaf, affirmed the institution’s commitment to developing productive assets based on regional potential.

“The Productive Waqf programme portfolio managed by Rumah Wakaf in Mekarmanik Village is an effort to continuously strengthen the socio-economic impact for the community and the environment based on local potential,” he said in a statement on Friday (21/8/2026).
