Rukun Warga (RW) Achieving 100 Percent Waste Sorting Will Receive Incentives
Jakarta – The DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) said that Rukun Warga (RW) which carry out 100 percent waste sorting will receive incentives in the form of facilities and infrastructure from the lurah (district head). ‘In Governor’s Instruction Number 5 of 2026, RWs that achieve 100 percent waste sorting will receive infrastructure incentives such as waste carts,’ DLH DKI Jakarta head of the Waste Sorting and Collection Section, Sigit Pamungkas, said during the online ‘Home Waste Sorting Movement Outreach’ on Wednesday. The success of RW achieving 100 percent waste sorting requires the involvement of dasa-wisma cadres, posyandu, jumatik (juru pemantau jentik) and the Family Empowerment and Welfare (PKK). ‘Lurah mobilizes cadres to educate residents. They will be asked to report to the Lurah. From the Lurah, reports go to the Camat on a monthly basis,’ Sigit said. Moreover, cadres can conduct home-to-home waste sorting outreach or at events, RT meetings, PKK arisan, or posyandu. They can also monitor and motivate each household, ensuring each home provides a segregated waste bin and consistently carries it out. Another role for cadres is helping to activate the Bank Sampah at RW level. If there is no Bank Sampah at the RW, cadres can coordinate its formation. The source-based waste sorting initiative has been designated by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government as a tangible step toward safeguarding the environment for a better future. Through Governor’s Instruction No. 5 of 2026 on the Source-based Sorting and Processing of Waste, the DKI government calls on residents to understand that sorting waste is no longer a choice but a shared necessity to save Jakarta from a waste emergency. The move becomes increasingly important because starting 1 August 2026, Bantargebang TPST will only accept residual waste. Furthermore, in 2027, Bantargebang TPST is targeted not to accept waste; therefore, changing resident behaviour will be a key part of building a more sustainable waste management system.
