Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto has affirmed the Bogor Regency Government’s commitment to providing long-term waste management solutions through the development of waste-to-energy technology at the Galuga Final Disposal Site (TPA), which will convert waste into electrical energy.

Susmanto conveyed this commitment while leading a meeting with various regional government bodies to follow up on previous discussions with the Bogor City Government and representatives of Danantara regarding strengthening integrated, effective, and sustainable waste management systems across the Greater Bogor region on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026.

During the meeting, the Bogor Regency Government formulated strategic measures to align waste management policies, strengthen cross-regional collaboration, and utilise modern technology as a future solution to waste problems.

Rudy Susmanto explained that his office had also received information from Danantara regarding developments in the waste-to-energy project at Galuga TPA. The international tender process has been completed and the project winner has been determined.

“Out of 24 companies that participated in the tender, 21 companies were from China, two from Japan, and one from Europe. The tender was ultimately won by a Chinese company,” Rudy explained.

According to him, this waste-to-energy project represents a concrete step by the Bogor Regency Government in presenting a sustainable solution to waste problems, which have long been a major challenge in the Greater Bogor region.

“Through waste-to-energy technology, waste no longer becomes merely an environmental burden but can be processed into a source of electrical energy that is beneficial to the community,” said Rudy Susmanto.

The Bogor Regency Government is targeting the start of facility development with a groundbreaking ceremony in 2026. The project is targeted to be completed as early as December 2027 and to commence operations no later than 2028.

In addition to processing daily waste, this technology is also expected to be capable of processing accumulated waste at Galuga TPA gradually into electrical energy over the next five to ten years.

Rudy added that the facility is expected not only to serve as a waste management solution but also to drive the transformation of the surrounding Galuga area, including the Cigombong region, into a modern, environmentally friendly waste processing centre.

On a national level, the development of waste-to-energy processing facilities has been designated at only four locations out of 514 regencies and cities in Indonesia: the Greater Bogor region, Bekasi (Bantar Gebang), Bali, and Batam. This designation reflects the central government’s trust in Greater Bogor for developing energy-based waste management technology.

Through this initiative, the Bogor Regency Government hopes that waste management systems in the future will operate in a more modern, integrated, and sustainable manner, thereby creating a cleaner environment whilst benefiting the community.
