Rubio: US Military Directly Monitoring Lebanon Ceasefire

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the US military is directly monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire in Lebanon in coordination with the Lebanese and Israeli armed forces. “CENTCOM (US Central Command) is now working not only with the Israeli military command, but also with the Lebanese military command,” Rubio told reporters. “Every time an incident occurs, we do not just take reports from other parties at face value. We can see the incident directly and assess and measure what actually happened,” he added. Rubio is currently visiting several countries in the Middle East to discuss various regional issues. Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah reportedly reached a ceasefire agreement scheduled to take effect on 19 June 2026. However, on the same day, a Lebanese military field source told RIA Novosti that Israel was still continuing air strikes in southern Lebanon. The two countries are currently undergoing a new round of US-mediated negotiations in Washington from 23 to 25 June 2026.
