Rubio states Iran operation will end within weeks
Paris (ANTARA) - United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Friday (27/3) that the ongoing operation in Iran would “end within weeks”.
Speaking to reporters after attending the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in France, Rubio said the operation would end “at the right time, within weeks, not months”.
He revealed that the US could still “achieve its objectives without ground troops”, including destroying Iran’s missile and drone capabilities.
A reporter from the US news website Axios wrote on the social media platform X that Rubio told the G7 foreign ministers the conflict with Iran could continue for “another two to four weeks”.
Rubio also said Washington was open to diverting US weapons from Ukraine to the Middle East, although this step had not yet been taken.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Rubio said no meetings were currently scheduled to discuss the issue. He also rejected the latest claim by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about US security guarantees linked to territorial concessions in Donbass, calling it a “lie” and emphasising that Zelensky had been informed the guarantees would only be provided after the conflict ended.
The G7 foreign ministers’ meeting was held in France on Thursday (26/3) and Friday, with discussions focusing on several issues, including the situation in Iran and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
