Washington (ANTARA) — United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have agreed to draft a scenario related to the Strait of Hormuz should no agreement be reached with Iran.

“We must start thinking about it; I raised that point today. I received a lot of nods of agreement. We must have a B plan if any party starts shooting,” Rubio told reporters on Friday (22 May).

Earlier the same day, Rubio attended a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Sweden.

On 1 April, US President Donald Trump said he was seriously considering pulling the US out of NATO after allies refused to join in the US and Israel’s war against Iran.

Then, on 9 April, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said some alliance members were “a little slow” in supporting the US military campaign against Iran, because they had not been notified in advance by Trump.

However, Rutte added that almost all US allies have since provided the support Washington had requested.
