Rubio ready to back Vance for 2028 US presidential bid

Washington (ANTARA) - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is prepared to support J.D. Vance if the vice president decides to run as a Republican candidate in the 2028 US presidential election, according to an AP report on Wednesday.

At the same time, President Donald Trump has reportedly intensified speculation about a potential rivalry between Rubio and Vance by asking his supporters who they would like to see as his successor.

Trump has also previously suggested that the two could form an “unbeatable” team.

The White House and the US State Department have denied any rift between them. Rubio himself stated that the US foreign policy team continues to work together and “without drama”, the report added.

The Republican Party must select a new presidential candidate ahead of the November 2028 election, as the US Constitution limits Trump to two terms in office.

Among the potential candidates, Trump has named members of his cabinet who could succeed him, including Vance, Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
