Ruben Amorim on Vasco da Gama's Radar as Manager Search Intensifies
Vasco da Gama’s management has reportedly added Ruben Amorim to their shortlist of managerial candidates following their decision to dismiss Fernando Diniz from the helm.
The club, nicknamed Gigante das Colinas (Giant of the Hills), requires a strategist to elevate the squad from their position of 20th in the Brazilian Serie A standings.
Vasco da Gama made a disappointing start to the season, accumulating just one point from four matches—three defeats and a single draw.
Beyond dismissing Diniz, management also terminated the contract of Philippe Coutinho. This situation has prompted the club to pursue Portuguese-passport candidates to lead the team.
According to reports from A Bola, Amorim is among Vasco da Gama’s targets alongside Artur Jorge, Leonardo Jardim, and Carlos Carvalhal. Jardim is currently without a club following his departure from Cruzeiro.
Should Amorim accept an offer from Gigante das Colinas, he would follow in the footsteps of fellow countrymen in Brazil. Abel Ferreira currently manages Palmeiras whilst Luis Castro is in charge of Gremio.
Amorim has been unemployed since Manchester United terminated his employment. The Portuguese manager led the club for 14 months, matching the tenure of David Moyes in 2014.
His dismissal came just days after Amorim clashed with the club’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox. At the time of his sacking, Manchester United occupied sixth place in the English Premier League standings.
