TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - Residents report that rubbish along Jalan Industri VIII in Pasir Jaya, Jatiuwung Subdistrict, Tangerang City, has been piling up for around two weeks, since before Eid.

Local resident Yusuf (41) said that the rubbish was initially relatively small before Ramadan. However, after Eid, the volume of rubbish increased dramatically, covering part of the road surface.

“At that time before fasting, it was still clear, the rubbish was just a little. After Eid, it suddenly piled up like this, I was shocked too,” said Yusuf when met by Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

According to him, the rubbish pile at the site stretches about 15 metres and covers half of the road.

Yusuf said that this condition often triggers congestion because vehicles have to take turns passing through.

In addition to disrupting traffic, Yusuf mentioned that the situation also affects his work as a construction labourer. The pungent smell from the rubbish makes him uncomfortable while working.

Nevertheless, he said the work continues by adapting to the field conditions, including moving some of the rubbish so that project activities can still proceed.

“Well, we just make do, move the rubbish a bit to be able to work,” Yusuf added.

Meanwhile, another resident, Arif (not his real name), stated that the spot is not an official rubbish disposal site, such as a temporary disposal point (TPS).

However, the location has long been used as an illegal dumping ground, especially by rubbish collectors using carts.

“So far, it’s just a dumping place, the cart operators just pour the rubbish there. And since it’s a border area (between Tangerang Regency and City), stray rubbish from everywhere arrives too,” he said.

According to him, the rubbish accumulation occurs because the volume of waste is not matched by the collection capacity.

The rubbish at the site is often collected every day but only with one vehicle.

“The main point is a shortage of vehicles. It’s collected every day, but it doesn’t cover everything. One truck alone isn’t enough, while the dumping continues,” he explained.
