Rubbish Piles Up at Rawa Bebek TPS Due to Bantargebang Operations Not Yet Normal
The head of the Environmental Executive Unit (Kasatpel) for Cakung sub-district, Encep, revealed the cause of the rubbish accumulation at the temporary storage site (TPS) 3R on Rawa Bebek Street, Pulogebang ward, Cakung sub-district, East Jakarta. “Because it is a temporary storage site, and due to Bantargebang not yet being normal after the landslide yesterday,” Encep said when contacted by Kompas.com on Thursday (9/4/2026). “We have already deployed 8-9 trucks and there will be assistance from transport trucks from the Sudin, but that assistance is waiting for the transport of the piles at Rawa Teratai to be completed,” he added. Nevertheless, Encep targets that all the rubbish in the area can be transported within the next few days. “To empty it, we need a few days ahead. We are endeavouring to do it as quickly as possible, hopefully the situation at Bantargebang will also return to smooth,” he said. The rubbish piles are overflowing onto the roadside near the East Flood Canal vehicle lane. Based on Kompas.com’s observations at the location, the rubbish appears to be piled up to a height of about two to three metres and is spilling onto the roadside. Although it does not completely block Rawa Bebek Street, the area around the TPS 3R is filled with scattered plastic rubbish extending several metres from the location. Several passing vehicles were seen having to slow down due to carts and rubbish trucks that were about to unload or transport rubbish.
