Rubbish Pile on Side of Cikande Road in Serang Catches Fire

A pile of rubbish on the side of the Serang-Tangerang highway in the Cikande area, Serang Regency, Banten, caught fire. Police who noticed the incident immediately extinguished the flames.

Cikande Police Chief Kompol Rudika Harto Kanajori was travelling along the Serang-Tangerang highway, precisely in Parigi Village, on Friday (24/7/2026) when he saw the burning pile of rubbish by the roadside. The rubbish had accumulated and stretched along the road, and the smoke temporarily blanketed the highway in this industrial area.

Recognising the potential danger, Rudika promptly contacted his personnel to head to the location. The police then carried out initial firefighting efforts to prevent the blaze from spreading.

“While passing through the location this morning, I saw a large pile of illegally dumped rubbish on the roadside already ablaze. Because it is on a main route with heavy traffic, I immediately contacted the standby personnel from Cikande Police to rush over and carry out initial firefighting to stop it from spreading,” Rudika stated.

To ensure the fire was completely extinguished and left no embers, the police coordinated with the Fire and Rescue Service (Damkar) team from the Modern Cikande Industrial Estate to conduct a cooling down process.

“Thanks to the quick response and swift action on the ground, the fire was fully brought under control in a short time. The incident caused no casualties and did not disrupt traffic flow on the Serang-Tangerang highway,” he said.

After the fire was extinguished, the Cikande Police, together with the Cikande District Government, removed the remaining burnt rubbish pile. Rudika stressed that the handling did not stop at extinguishing the fire but continued with a total clean-up to prevent the location from being used again as an illegal dumping site by irresponsible individuals.

“This step is important so that this roadside area is clean, pleasant, and does not trigger repeated fires that could endanger road users,” Rudika said.

He urged the public not to dump rubbish on the roadside in the Cikande area. During the dry season, dry rubbish is highly susceptible to catching fire, allowing flames to grow rapidly.

“Besides disturbing the aesthetics and damaging the environment, the potential danger of fires on busy traffic routes like this is very high. Let us work together to maintain the safety and cleanliness of the Cikande area,” he stated.
