Rubbish pile at Depo Kembar temporary dump finally cleared after residents' complaints
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Officers from the West Jakarta Environmental Sub-District Office (Sudin LH) removed a pile of rubbish at the Temporary Waste Storage Site (TPS) Depo Kembar, Jelambar, Grogol Petamburan, on Thursday, after the odour it caused was complained about by nearby residents. “Yesterday we cleared it at Depo Kembar. Yes (complained by residents), we deployed officers from the Grogol Petamburan Environmental Unit,” said the Head of Sudin LH Jakbar, Achmad Hariadi, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday. Hariadi explained that the TPS Depo Kembar is essentially a location for two adjacent TPSs. One TPS is used by RW 08 Jelambar and the other by RW 02 Jelambar Baru. “But there are four RWs that dispose of rubbish there, that’s why the rubbish piles up,” Hariadi stated. In addition, transit rubbish from cart officers is often dumped at the location when the two collection trucks have not yet returned from the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Bantargebang. “So besides the rubbish transported there exceeding capacity, the carts also come in when the trucks haven’t returned from Bantargebang. That’s why it piles up,” said Hariadi. Meanwhile, the Head of the Grogol Petamburan Environmental Unit, Udin Mahmudin, stated that the cleaning was carried out by 30 combined officers from the Sub-District Environmental Office along with personnel from the Jelambar Sub-District Community Protection and Order Unit (PPSU). “The rubbish was piling up and even spilling onto the main road, thus disturbing local residents’ activities,” he said. Besides the officers, they also deployed a heavy shovel-type machine to load the rubbish piles into five large rubbish collection trucks. “The transportation process lasted for four hours, and along with that, the unpleasant smell that had been enveloping the area began to decrease,” he said.
