JAKARTA – Piles of rubbish in RT 10, RW 04, Kalibaru area, Cilincing, North Jakarta, have overflowed into the surrounding salted fish drying areas.

Based on Kompas.com observations at the site on Tuesday (7/4/2026), the rubbish is scattered, entering the salted fish drying spots located behind the piles.

The rubbish is visible scattered under the fish racks.

The types of rubbish accumulating are varied, from food scraps, plastics, shellfish waste, to damaged sofas.

There are also seven green rubbish bins visible at the location.

A man was seen in the middle of the rubbish pile, collecting plastic bottles.

The stench from the rubbish mixed with the smell of salted fish can be detected from about 10 metres away.

“Since Eid, it has only been collected once. Just one truck,” he said when met by Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday.

He admitted that his work activities are disrupted due to the overflowing rubbish piles.

In agreement, Septiana (30), a trader in the vicinity, said that the rubbish is usually collected about every two weeks.

“It was collected five days ago, but after that, sometimes it takes more than two weeks for the truck to come again,” she said.

“This is worse than before. I feel disturbed, the smell is bothersome, especially when there are customers near the rubbish area, and with the rubbish scattered like this, it just looks untidy,” she added.

Kompas.com has attempted to seek a response from Eddy Mulyanto, Head of the North Jakarta Environmental Sub-Department.
