RT head in South Jakarta says residents want to adopt baby abandoned in a nasi uduk cart

A female infant abandoned in a nasi uduk cart in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, is currently being cared for at a puskesmas (community health centre). The local RT head, Pulung Purwanto, said there are residents who want to adopt. “Yes, it’s the Pasar Minggu puskesmas nearby. People have come, and it’s being documented by the Dinas Sosial. And, thankfully, there is also a resident of mine who wants to adopt,” he said at the scene on Thursday, 5 March 2026. Pulung said he has reported this directly to the Dinas Sosial, and he asked what requirements must be met for the adoption to proceed. “We have told the Dinas Sosial, ‘This is my resident who found the baby yesterday—what are the requirements for adoption?’ I have followed up with the department,’ he explained. Earlier, a baby girl was found in the Pasar Minggu area. She was found alive inside a shopping bag in a nasi uduk cart.”A baby girl has been found,” said Pasar Minggu Police Sector Chief, Kompol Anggiat Sinambela, on Wednesday, 4 March. The baby was found on Tuesday, 3 March, around 17:30 WIB, in a nasi uduk cart in front of a resident’s house on Jalan Pejaten Raya RT 010 RW 002, Pasar Minggu, Jaksel. The baby was found by a resident who was alerted by crying. “In the shopping bag, witness Dinda saw a black shopping bag, then saw a baby girl lying on her side wearing a blue teddy-bear patterned outfit and covered with a baby blanket,” he said. In the bag were also found infant formula, wet wipes, baby mittens, and a note with writing on it. The residents cleaned her up and changed her nappy. The discovery was reported to FKDM Kelurahan Pasar Minggu and forwarded to Polsek Pasar Minggu. The baby is believed to have been abandoned by her parents. “The baby girl is estimated to be about two days old, based on the note written by a person named Zidan who is suspected of deliberately abandoning the infant at the scene,” he said.
