The government has established RSUP Jayapura to ensure equitable access to national healthcare services in Papua. Managing Director Dr Petronela Risamassu stated on 29 May that the hospital aims to deliver comprehensive and modern medical services, eliminating the need for patients to seek treatment elsewhere. The Ministry of Health continues to promote equitable national healthcare access through central hospitals, including RSUP Jayapura in Papua. Dr Risamassu noted that the hospital, officially opened in 2025, offers new hope for Papuans to access modern, comprehensive, and high-quality healthcare. She explained that previously, many patients from Papua had to be referred to other regions for advanced medical care, leading to higher costs and longer treatment times. Therefore, RSUP Jayapura has been expanding specialised services such as ophthalmology, neurointervention for stroke and cerebral vascular disorders, and enhanced cancer treatment, allowing patients to receive care locally without referrals. β€˜The Ministry of Health will ensure equal healthcare services across Indonesia. As one of the hospitals in Papua Province, we provide accessible and high-quality healthcare, ensuring communities experience comprehensive, advanced, comfortable, and clean services. This is our duty,’ she said. She added that digital transformation through hospital information system development and service digitisation is ongoing. This initiative aims to improve efficiency, ease access, and enhance comfort for patients and families in Papua.
