RSUP Dr. Sardjito Achieves More Eco-Friendly Operations Using Natural Gas
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, continues to expand the use of natural gas across various sectors, including healthcare facilities. One such example is the Dr. Sardjito Central General Hospital (RSUP) in Yogyakarta, which utilises natural gas to support energy requirements for its hospital operations.
The use of natural gas at RSUP Dr. Sardjito serves two primary daily needs: operating boilers to support CSSD (Central Sterile Supply Department) activities, including sterilisation and laundry, and meeting the requirements of the hospital kitchen. The natural gas supply to RSUP Dr. Sardjito is fulfilled through a CNG Clustering scheme from a Pressure Regulating System (PRS) facility, with the supply sourced from Semarang.
The volume of natural gas usage at RSUP Dr. Sardjito currently ranges between 25,000 and 30,000 cubic metres per month. This utilisation of natural gas provides significant benefits in terms of hospital operational cost efficiency.
“Since using natural gas, the efficiency we have experienced is quite significant, with average cost savings reaching 75% compared to when we used previous energy sources,” said Arismantoro, a Maintenance Technician at RSUP Dr. Sardjito, as quoted on Tuesday.
According to Arismantoro, in addition to providing cost efficiency, the use of natural gas supports the hospital’s efforts to run more environmentally friendly operations. The characteristics of natural gas, which produce lower emissions compared to several other fossil fuels, support RSUP Dr. Sardjito’s efforts to meet environmental aspects and sustainability principles.
In terms of reliability, the use of natural gas at RSUP Dr. Sardjito is functioning well to meet the hospital’s operational needs. Consistent energy availability is crucial, given that various hospital facilities must operate continuously to support public services.
PGN is committed to maintaining the reliability of gas services by considering the operational needs and characteristics of RSUP Dr. Sardjito. In addition to energy provision, PGN also provides regular maintenance support to ensure that gas distribution facilities continue to operate safely and optimally.
“PGN maintains the reliability and security of natural gas services for customers. We perform routine maintenance to ensure the system operates optimally and is ready to respond to any issues. For RSUP Dr. Sardjito, we continue to ensure that the natural gas supply is reliably available according to the hospital’s operational needs,” said Sugianto Eko Cahyono, PGN Semarang Area Head.
The use of natural gas at RSUP Dr. Sardjito serves as an example of natural gas utilisation within the healthcare sector. For PGN, the healthcare sector possesses energy requirements characterised by a need for high reliability and supply continuity. PGN hopes that the benefits of efficiency, reliability, and environmental impact experienced by RSUP Dr. Sardjito can encourage wider natural gas utilisation in the commercial and public service sectors, particularly in Yogyakarta and the surrounding regions.
