RSUD Tarakan Prioritises Patient Data Protection in Information Services
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Tarakan Regional General Hospital (RSUD) is prioritising patient data protection in its management of public information as part of implementing information transparency while complying with legal provisions.
RSUD Tarakan Director Weningtyas Purnomo Rini stated that patient data is classified as exempt information and therefore cannot be accessed by the general public. “Exempt information is governed by a code of ethics and legal provisions regarding who is entitled to access it,” Weningtyas said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Weningtyas explained that RSUD Tarakan provides information services to the public through its Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID). Various types of information accessible to the public have been made available through the PPID website and the hospital’s official social media channels. To date, RSUD Tarakan has handled approximately 1,400 information requests.
The information managed includes periodic information, information available at any time, immediately available information, and exempt information in accordance with laws and regulations. According to her, public bodies remain obligated to maintain the confidentiality of exempt information.
“Transparency does not mean revealing everything. There is information that must be disclosed to the public, but there is also information that is exempt. This is where a philosophical and juridical understanding is needed so that both interests can be balanced,” said Harry.
He added that frontline hospital staff play a crucial role in protecting patient data. Therefore, every information request should be directed to the PPID for assessment of the type of information being requested. “When there is a request, please direct it to the PPID, who has the obligation to filter whether it falls under the Public Information List (DIP) or the Exempt Information List (DIK), thus ensuring that the information provided complies with legal provisions,” Harry said.
