RSUD Tarakan holds important role as referral hospital
Jakarta – RSUD Tarakan is increasingly considered strategically important amid high demand for urban healthcare services, developing into a type-A healthcare facility that plays a crucial role as a referral hospital in the capital.
“As a type-A referral hospital, RSUD Tarakan faces cases with high levels of complexity. What deserves appreciation is that this hospital is able to maintain clinical standards and service response amid large patient volumes,” said Agung Nugroho, Chairman of the Indonesian Health Volunteers Association (Rekan) Indonesia, in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, RSUD Tarakan, a regional hospital owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government that has operated for nearly four decades, has developed into a type-A healthcare facility that plays an important role in the referral system in the capital.
This transformation is evident from the strengthening of specialist and sub-specialist services. RSUD Tarakan, Agung said, now handles integrated cardiac cases, stroke, cancer, kidney disorders, and complex surgical procedures.
The presence of catheterisation laboratories, modern operating theatres, and intensive care units affirm its capacity to handle patients with critical conditions. RSUD Tarakan’s strength lies not only in infrastructure but also in systems and human resources.
On the operational side, Agung continued, digital strengthening has also accelerated service delivery processes. Electronic registration and medical records systems help reduce waiting times and improve coordination between units.
This improvement is part of adaptation to increasingly dynamic public needs. As a public hospital, the majority of RSUD Tarakan’s patients are participants in the National Health Insurance scheme (JKN).
“This role places it as the frontline of healthcare access for various segments of society,” he said.
As RSUD Tarakan approaches its 39th anniversary, it demonstrates that regional hospitals can continue to grow through system renewal, enhanced service capacity, and strengthened human resources.
Amid the healthcare challenges of a major city, this hospital continues to improve to ensure that services remain professional, swift, and affordable for the public.
