RSUD KHZ Musthafa Tasikmalaya Successfully Performs First Thrombolysis Therapy in East Priangan

Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah (RSUD) KHZ Musthafa in Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, has recorded a significant medical achievement by successfully saving three stroke infarction patients through thrombolysis therapy. This success marks the first time the procedure has been performed by a healthcare facility in the East Priangan region.

RSUD KHZ Musthafa Director Eli Hendalia explained that the thrombolysis service is a concrete step in treating stroke infarction, a condition where blood flow to the brain is blocked. The hospital is now equipped with an early warning system through code stroke activation, aimed at dissolving the blockage so that blood flow can return to normal.

“The thrombolysis service is a rapid response for stroke infarction patients. This therapy functions to restore blood flow in the brain before permanent damage occurs. The patient’s chance of recovery will be much greater if treated within hours of the first symptoms appearing,” said Eli Hendalia on Saturday (20/6/2026).

Eli added that RSUD KHZ Musthafa provides thrombolytic drugs as the main component of the therapy. The success of treatment depends heavily on the speed of response from the moment the patient arrives at the Emergency Department (IGD). Medical staff are targeted to perform an initial identification in less than 10 minutes.

“The patient will undergo a CT scan, then be taken to the stroke corner room to receive thrombolysis therapy according to medical indications. We have established an integrated system involving neurologists, neurosurgeons, the emergency team, nurses, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy to ensure optimal acute stroke management,” he said.

Nia, 50, a resident of Leuwisari, expressed her gratitude for the rapid treatment her father received. Previously, her father had suffered a stroke infarction and lost the ability to speak.

“Alhamdulillah, after being treated for about an hour, my father was able to speak again. Initially the doctor said there was a blockage of blood vessels in the brain, but after thrombolysis therapy, his condition returned to normal,” said Nia.

This achievement is expected to improve the standard of healthcare services in Tasikmalaya Regency, particularly in handling neurological emergencies that require swift and precise action.
