RSCM Reveals Andrie Yunus's Condition After 20 Days of Treatment
Cipto Mangunkusumo Central General Hospital (RSUP RSCM) has provided an update on the condition of Kontras Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus following the acid attack by members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency on 12 March 2026. RSCM Legal Manager and Public Relations Officer Yoga Nara stated that Andrie’s psychological condition is generally stable, despite the severe traumatic incident.
Andrie’s wounds are also showing improvement, with most having closed and dried. Burns from the chemical liquid have been covered by new skin from grafts in areas of the face, front neck, chest, parts of the shoulder, and right arm.
In the coming week, Yoga said, Andrie is scheduled for further skin grafts to replace dead skin on the back of the neck. “Plans for wound evaluations under sedation twice this week to ensure the healing process is progressing well,” Yoga stated in a written release on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
Additionally, Yoga recounted that Andrie underwent his third surgery on his right eye on 28 March 2026. During the operation, the cornea surface was found to be thinning further, with leakage in the eyeball wall.
To prevent further damage, doctors performed patching of the eyeball using tissue from the patient’s limbs, then covered with conjunctival membrane. Furthermore, Andrie’s right eye has been temporarily closed by suturing the eyelid to protect and maintain the eyeball’s shape during healing.
The closure of the right eye is planned to last about four months. “After that, the medical team will conduct further evaluations to determine the next steps,” Yoga said.
To date, Andrie remains hospitalised. He is under monitoring by a multidisciplinary medical team consisting of plastic surgery specialists, ophthalmologists, and other related health personnel to ensure optimal and continuous recovery.
Andrie Yunus, an activist who frequently criticises the expansion of the military’s role in civilian spaces, was doused with acid by unidentified individuals on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on the night of Thursday, 12 March 2026.
On Friday, 18 March 2026, TNI Headquarters revealed four attackers who are members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). Since that day, the four members with initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES have been designated as suspects and are undergoing detention at the Jayakarta Guntur Military Detention Facility.
“The articles applied to the suspects are for assault,” said TNI Information Centre Head Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah in a written statement on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
However, to date, the TNI has not disclosed the motive behind the attack by its intelligence members. Aulia said his institution is still investigating the motive. He plans for the TNI Military Police Centre to examine Andrie Yunus to obtain his statement as the victim.
Aulia stated that TNI Puspom Commander Major General Yusri Nuryanto has even sent a letter requesting the examination to LPSK Chairman Achmadi. Previously, he said, Puspom investigators had also attempted to obtain Andrie Yunus’s statement as the victim on 19 March 2026. “However, the doctor did not permit it due to health reasons,” he explained.
