The Director General of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), Supriyanto Dharmoredjo, has claimed that specialist medical education programmes, including the paediatric cardiology sub-speciality, continue to operate optimally following the transfer of Piprim Basarah Yanuarso.

Supriyanto said that Piprim's transfer from RSCM to Fatmawati Central General Hospital was a routine occurrence in the medical profession and had not had any impact on the educational programmes currently underway. "Everything is fine. Fatmawati Central General Hospital is a teaching hospital network partner — thankfully, services and programmes are running smoothly," Supriyanto told Tempo on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

He explained that as a teaching hospital, Fatmawati Central General Hospital has the right and authority to conduct medical education programmes, including the development of paediatric cardiology training. "So, whether someone is assigned to Fatmawati or RSCM, the principle is the same, as they are part of one network. Medical education at our institution is perfectly fine," Supriyanto said.

Previously, Mulyadi, Head of the Paediatric Cardiology Division at RSCM, stated that Piprim Basarah's sudden transfer to Fatmawati Central General Hospital had not only affected paediatric cardiac intervention services but had also dealt a blow to specialist medical education.

According to Mulyadi, Piprim had long been recognised as a mentor for prospective paediatric specialists and paediatric cardiology sub-specialists at RSCM. "Losing a mentor will have a knock-on effect on the direction of future specialist doctors," Mulyadi said in a video statement on Tuesday, 26 August 2026.

Piprim Basarah was transferred to Fatmawati Central General Hospital in April 2025. Speaking to Tempo, he assessed that there had been an abuse of power in the decision to transfer him from RSCM to Fatmawati.

According to Piprim, transfers of civil servants are indeed a routine matter. However, a transfer can become irregular when principles of meritocracy are violated.

"The transfer was strange — initially, it was the Directorate General of Referral Services that issued the transfer. But then, for me, they issued a Transfer Decree from the Secretariat General," he said on Sunday, 24 August 2025.

Most recently, Piprim announced that he had been dismissed as a civil servant. In a widely circulated video, Piprim stated that he had been sacked by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

Health Ministry spokesperson Widyawati said that Piprim had violated civil service disciplinary regulations since the issuance of the transfer decree. The violation committed by Piprim, she said, was being absent from duty on consecutive days.

"The dismissal of the individual concerned as a civil servant has no connection to criticism of ministry policy," Widyawati said in a written statement on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
