RSCM: Andrie Yunus's Activities Still Need to Be Limited
The National Central General Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) states that the activities of Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the External Division of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), remain limited. Andrie is currently under monitoring and treatment by a multidisciplinary medical team consisting of specialist doctors in plastic reconstructive surgery, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and other related healthcare professionals to ensure the recovery process proceeds optimally and continuously. RSCM conveys that based on professional medical considerations both physically and psychologically, the patient is still in the post-follow-up surgery recovery phase and requires periodic evaluations of the wound healing process as well as eye condition. “Therefore, the patient’s activities still need to be limited to reduce the risk of disrupting the healing process,” said RSCM’s Public Relations Officer Sylvia in a press statement on Tuesday (12/5). Sylvia explained that Andrie’s condition is generally stable and shows good progress. Andrie has a history of burns on his face, neck, chest, back, and both arms due to acid chemical trauma that occurred on 12 March 2026. During the treatment period, said Sylvia, Andrie has undergone a series of medical procedures and surgeries gradually according to clinical needs. The most recent follow-up surgery was performed on 7 May 2026, involving tissue debridement and advanced wound closure with skin grafting. Post-procedure, Andrie is undergoing care and observation in the RSCM ward for clinical condition monitoring and wound healing evaluation. “In the latest evaluation on 8 May 2026, the patient’s condition was declared stable,” said Sylvia. Andrie is reported to have no fever, nausea, or vomiting, good food tolerance, and is able to walk independently. Post-operative pain complaints are minimal and can still be controlled with therapy provided by the medical team. Regarding the right eye condition, it is currently in the advanced treatment stage with temporary eyelid closure to support the healing process and maintain the eyeball structure. “Ultrasonography (USG) examination results show the eyeball is still intact and no signs of optic nerve detachment or other severe disruptions were found in the posterior part of the eyeball,” said Sylvia. “Periodic evaluations continue to be carried out by the ophthalmology team together with the plastic reconstructive surgery team,” she added. From a psychological aspect, based on evaluations by the psychiatry and psychology team, the patient’s condition is currently within normal limits and no significant psychological disorders were found. Andrie is assessed to be quite capable of adapting to his physical condition and surroundings and is cooperative during the treatment process. Psychological support continues to be provided routinely to support the patient’s overall recovery process. “RSCM affirms its commitment to continue providing optimal, professional medical services prioritising patient safety in accordance with applicable health service standards. We also urge the public to remain calm and give space for the patient to undergo the recovery process well,” she said. Andrie Yunus was doused with acid by TNI soldiers on the night of 12 March 2026 after giving a podcast at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office titled “Remilitarisation & Judicial Review of the TNI Law”. The four TNI soldiers responsible for the acid attack are currently being tried at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta. They are Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka. The motive for the acid attack, according to the prosecutor, was that the defendants harboured a grudge against Andrie for successfully interrupting a parliamentary meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law held at the Fairmont Hotel, South Jakarta, in March 2025. “With that incident, the defendants considered Andrie Yunus to have insulted the TNI institution, even trampling on the TNI institution,” said the prosecutor when reading the indictment in the previous trial. The defendants are charged with violating Article 469 paragraph 1 subsidiary Article 468 paragraph 1 further subsidiary Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
