The National Central General Hospital Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) has stated that Andrie Yunus, Vice Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), is in stable condition.

Andrie was attacked with caustic liquid by an unknown person on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026, at approximately 23:37 WIB on Jalan Salemba I Talang, Central Jakarta.

RSCM’s Manager of Legal Affairs and Public Relations Yoga Nara explained that Andrie underwent intensive medical treatment following the caustic liquid attack. “At present, the patient’s general condition is stable and not life-threatening,” said Yoga in a written statement on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Andrie arrived at RSCM’s Emergency Department early on Friday, 13 March 2026, at approximately midnight, with complaints of burns to his face, neck, chest, back and both arms, along with vision disturbance in his right eye. Upon Andrie’s arrival at the Emergency Department, Yoga said, the medical team immediately conducted an initial examination.

Examination using pH indicators revealed exposure to acidic chemical substances in the wound area. As initial treatment, the medical team performed irrigation or washing of the exposed area to reduce the chemical substance’s effect and normalise tissue condition.

Yoga explained that subsequent examination results showed that the patient sustained burns on approximately 20 per cent of body area as well as chemical trauma to the right eye with high severity at the acute phase.

“This condition caused a sharp decline in vision and damage to the corneal surface,” said Yoga.

To address this condition, RSCM’s medical team performed cleaning of damaged tissue in Andrie Yunus’s right eye as well as amnion membrane transplantation to protect the eye surface.

Subsequently, Andrie was admitted to the High Care Unit (HCU) to receive comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary medical team consisting of ophthalmologists, reconstructive plastic surgeons and emergency medical staff.

“Treatment provided includes wound care, administration of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication, vitamins and treatment to maintain controlled intraocular pressure,” he said.

Yoga also ensured that medical treatment for Andrie would continue, including possible tissue reconstruction procedures and further procedures to help optimise recovery of vision function.

“RSCM is committed to providing comprehensive and professional medical services for every patient requiring treatment of complex trauma cases such as this,” said Yoga.
