'RRI' director denies corruption allegations

JAKARTA: The director of state-funded radio station RRI, Suryanta Saleh, denied on Tuesday allegations his office had misused state funds in procuring broadcast equipment.

He said the Supreme Audit Agency had launched a probe into the alleged Rp 40 billion (US$4.4 million) scandal.

"The investigation will take time because the team has to inspect some RRI offices in the regions," Suryanta told legislators here on Tuesday.

The Indonesia Corruption Watch alleged earlier that RRI officials had marked up the price of broadcast equipment for the dissemination of election information. -- JP
