RPL and Microlearning Programmes at UNM: A New Way for Generation Z to Achieve Success

According to Arfhan Prasetyo, Head of the Informatics Study Programme (S1), this approach is designed to provide a more flexible, relevant, and appropriate learning experience for today’s students.

“The RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) Programme allows students to receive recognition for their previous learning experiences, whether from formal, non-formal education, or work experience,” he said, quoted on Friday (15 May 2026).

Meanwhile, microlearning, he said, presents learning material in a short, concise, and easy-to-understand format. The combination of these two methods can improve the effectiveness of the learning process.

“Students are not only required to understand theory, but also to develop competencies based on real-world experience. This also addresses the challenges of an increasingly dynamic and skills-based working world,” he explained.

UNM also encourages students to learn from various sources, not limited to the classroom. Learning is expanded through practical experience, projects, and independent exploration relevant to industry needs.

Arfhan added that this approach emphasises competency outcomes rather than just the formal process. “Learning does not always have to be in the classroom. What is important is the competencies possessed and how to develop them,” he said.
