Rp31 Trillion Economic Stimulus Released, with Rice Assistance and Wage Subsidies as Government Mainstays
The government has prepared a budget of Rp31 trillion for economic stimulus programmes in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, confirmed that the entire budget is sourced from the 2026 State Budget (APBN).
Airlangga stated this during an interview at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Monday night, 5 October 2026.
“APBN. Yes (entirely from the APBN),” Airlangga replied when asked about the funding source for the economic stimulus programme.
The economic stimulus encompasses several programmes targeting the public, particularly the lowest welfare groups. One of the prepared programmes is the opening of bank accounts for all citizens aged over 17.
Targeting the Stimulus
In its implementation, the account opening programme is focused on communities within deciles 1 to 4. The determination of the number of beneficiaries is currently undergoing a cross-checking process of data between ministries and agencies.
This process is being conducted to ensure that recipient data is accurate and that the distribution of assistance is precisely targeted.
In addition to opening bank accounts, the government has placed social protection and food security as key components of the economic stimulus at the end of 2026.
One such measure involves the distribution of 10 kilograms of rice per month from October to December 2026.
The rice assistance programme has a budget value of Rp17.5 trillion and is aimed at 33,244,408 beneficiary families (KPM) within deciles 1 to 4.
Under this scheme, food assistance will be provided for three months at the end of 2026 to help maintain the food security of the targeted population.
Rp300,000 Wage Subsidy for 13.3 Million Workers
Protection for workers is also a part of the stimulus programme. The government will continue the provision of Wage Subsidy Assistance (BSU) for three months.
The amount of assistance provided reaches Rp300,000 per month for each worker. The programme targets approximately 13.3 million workers with a budget of nearly Rp12 trillion.
BSU serves as one of the instruments prepared by the government to provide support to workers amidst the implementation of the economic stimulus in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Programmes to Continue into 2027
The government’s economic stimulus does not end at the close of 2026. Several programmes are designed to continue into 2027, including initiatives related to employment, taxation, housing, and the industrial sector.
