Jakarta (ANTARA) - Urban observer from Trisakti University, Yayat Supritna, believes that the Trans-Airport (Transjabodetabek) fare for the Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta Airport route, set at Rp15,000, is reasonable.

“It is reasonable. It represents social protection,” he stated, representing the public interest, at Jakarta City Hall on Friday. Yayat noted that the Rp15,000 fare still reflects social protection as the government continues to provide subsidies to ensure public transport services remain affordable.

“The Rp15,000 fare can be considered a form of state protection, safeguarding purchasing power and protecting consumers,” he said. On the other hand, he noted that the maximum amount Jakarta residents are willing to pay for products, services, or amenities remains relatively high.

He expressed hope that the implementation of the new fare would be accompanied by an increase in service quality, particularly regarding travel time certainty and the provision of supporting facilities, such as luggage ramps at the Blok M Terminal.

“I believe the Rp15,000 fare is a form of state protection for the public’s purchasing power. However, this policy must be accompanied by improvements in service quality,” he added. The fare is set to take effect on 1 September 2026.

The Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, emphasised that the fare determination was made to ensure operational sustainability while meeting Minimum Service Standards (SPM).

“The determination of the Rp15,000 fare is purely the result of an in-depth study to ensure service sustainability. It remains subsidised by the Jakarta Provincial Government, so the public continues to have access to very affordable transport to the airport,” he said.

Budi explained that from its launch on 12 March until 30 June 2026, the Blok M–Soekarno-Hatta Airport route has served 182,996 people, with an average of 1,851 passengers per day.
