RP vehicle sales down 14.7%

MANILA (AFP): Philippine motor vehicle sales fell 14.7 percent from a year earlier to 17,899 units in the three months to March, an industry association said Monday.

Passenger car sales plunged 29.6 percent to 5,326 units while sales of vans, trucks and buses were also down 6.3 percent, to 12,573 units, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. said.

Leading assembler Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. saw its sales slide 26.2 percent to 4,657 units due to a strike.
