RP to discuss funds from Japan
MANILA (AFP): The Philippine government will discuss this week
details of the country's share in a US$30 billion Japanese fund
to assist crisis-hit Asian economies, government said announced
on Sunday.
The government said a "consultative mission" from Japan is to
arrive in Manila this week, although no specific dates were
given.
It said the Japanese government told the Philippines during
last week's Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in
Malaysia that Manila would receive $3 billion from the fund.
The aid package was proposed last month by Japanese Finance
Minister Koichi Miyazawa to help economies hardest hit by the
Asian financial crisis.
