RP readies for foreign tourists
MANILA (DPA): A Philippine tourism official said on Wednesday
hotels and airlines were already gearing up for an influx of
foreign visitors into the country for Chinese New Year
celebrations despite a wave of deadly bombings in the capital.
Nixon Kua, head of the Philippine Tourism Authority, said
airlines have scheduled additional flights into the country and
hotels have cleared rooms in preparation for the Chinese New Year
on Jan. 24, which usually attracts an influx of Chinese tourists.
"The country, especially the Filipino-Chinese community, is
all geared up for this event and everybody is looking forward to
welcoming visitors from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan," he said.
Kua assured foreign tourists that the country remains a "safe
destination" despite the Dec. 30 bombings which killed at least
17 people and injured more than 100. "The safety and security of
all visitors are our highest priority."
