MANILA (AP): Philippine police arrested on Friday four suspected members of a syndicate that makes counterfeit foreign currencies, including U.S. dollars and Japanese yen.
The arrests followed an altercation between a market vendor, who allegedly received a fake $100 bill from two of the suspects, Marissa Reyes and Benito Villa, as payment for several kilograms of pork.
Police who responded to the altercation in the market also caught up with the two others, Liza Santos and Diodoro Daliguan, who tried to flee in a taxi.
Manila police chief Efren Fernandez said officers seized a bag from the group that contained 12 fake $100 bills, 20 fake $50 bills, 32 fake German marks and five fake 10,000 yen bills.
