MANILA (AP): A former Philippine police general who survived battles with Communist rebels was killed in a car when a stone thrown by a prankster along a northern Philippine highway hit him in the face, police said yesterday.
Retired Brig. Gen. Orlando Antonio was killed early on Monday on a highway in Guiguinto in Bulacan province, regional police chief Arturo Lomibao said.
Lomibao said Antonio was seated beside his driver when a stone thrown from a bridge by a prankster smashed through the car's windshield and into his face. Police said the prankster escaped. Antonio died later in a hospital, Lomibao said.
Police said pranksters have previously thrown stones at vehicles from the bridge. Last year, a group of men threw a stone at a passing car. When the driver of the car stopped and chased the men, another group of men boarded his car and drove off, they said.
