RP, Malaysia sign defense agreement

MANILA (AFP): The Philippines and Malaysia signed here
yesterday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for defense
cooperation, officials said.

The agreement, signed by Philippine Defense Secretary Renato
de Villa and his Malaysian counterpart, Najib Abdul Razak, calls
for the exchange of information and logistics and the holding of
joint military exercises between the two countries.

"This framework arrangement represents a milestone in our
relations and provides an opening for a new partnership and
cooperation on defense matters between our two countries," De
Villa said.

Najib likewise welcomed the defense agreement, saying the
event heralded a new chapter in Philippine-Malaysian relations.
