RP lifts ban on workers in Bahrain

MANILA (AFP): The Philippines has lifted a ban on sending
workers to Bahrain and northern areas of Saudi Arabia near the
borders with Kuwait and Iraq because of easing of tensions there,
Labor Secretary Leonardo Quisumbing said yesterday.

The labor department suspended the deployment of workers to
the area in September 1996 because of tension sparked by renewed
United States attacks on Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War.
