RP leadership is power-hungry: Poe

PHILIPPINES: President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's main rival in last month's elections said on Tuesday she would be a "bogus president" if she's proclaimed the winner based on allegedly fraudulent results.

"The fight is not over," opposition front-runner Fernando Poe Jr. told supporters, as a congressional committee dominated by pro-Arroyo lawmakers continued with a laborious task of tabulating the results of the May 10 elections ahead of the inauguration set for June 30.

"We have a leadership that is power-hungry, that will do everything to remain in power," Poe told scores of supporters in suburban Malabon city.

"This is a leadership that only protects its personal interest and not serve the interest of the majority."

It was the harshest attack by Poe, a movie actor and high school dropout, since he announced his bid for the presidency in December. --AP
